The Gospel of Jesus in Parables
used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels. Only the harsh reality of life away from his father's protection brought him to his senses. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. But just as the king was merciful and forgave his servant's impossibly huge debt, God is also merciful and will forgive our sins, no matter how many or how large. Then all those bridesmaids got up and trimmed their lamps. Let both grow together until the harvest. A parable describing the kingdom of heaven as having small beginning and becoming the greatest, a refuge to many (Matthew 13:31-32, Mark 4:30-32, Luke 13:18-19). He thought of many things to please himself, but he never thought about sharing his abundant harvest with the poor.
There are a growing numb er of scholars who also find parables. The parables of Jesus are found in the three synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark, and. Luke) and the Gospel of Thomas.
But the father's love is the main topic of this parable. Jesus' explanation seems harsh and out of character. We must actively use the gifts we have been given to serve God and to serve other people. The lesson is that we must always be spiritually prepared for judgment. If a Samaritan man could be a "neighbor" to the Jewish man who was robbed and beaten, then the definition of "neighbor" would have to include all people of the world. In this parable, Jesus tells us that anyone in need is our neighbor, regardless of race, religion, nationality or any other artificial distinction. It does matter that we diligently do what we can ( Luke 12:48 ). Gerizim and proclaimed it, rather than the Jewish temple, to be the true house of God. That is how God forgives us and that is our model for forgiveness. No, he answered, because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them.
